Arriving in Cambodia

By Air

There are two major airports in Cambodia: Phnom Penh International Airport and Siem Reap – Angkor International Airport. Flying from the USS takes more than 20 hours, meanwhile flying from Europe takes around 13 hours. Air tickets are often expensive during holidays and the cool season (Nov – Feb) when this is the high season of Cambodia tourism. However, the air tickets fall considerably during the rainy season (Jun – Oct). You are advised to book tickets in advance for the best price.

From the two airports, you can hire tuk-tuks or air-conditioned taxis outside the terminals. Taxis and minibuses can also be organized in advance from upscale hotels. The journey from Phnom Penh’s airport to the centre can take up to an hour because of over-crowded streets while the trip from Siem Reap’s airport to the centre is only 10-15 minutes.

For you book one of our tour packages in Cambodia, you should include airport transfer for the best services and worry-free.

By Water

There is a river border crossing between Cambodia and Vietnam on the banks of the Mekong. There are regular fast passenger boats plying the route between Phnom Penh and Chau Doc in Vietnam, via the Kaam Samnor – Vinh Xuong border crossing. This route is often included in most our Mekong Cruises. There are also a couple of luxurious river boats running all the way to the temples of Angkor in Cambodia. There is also a river crossing on the Mekong border with Laos, although most travellers use the road these days.

By land

There are at least 12 border gates into Cambodia from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. The most popular crossing from Thailand is Arayprathet to Poipet. Veun Kham to Dom Kralor from Laos and Moc Bai to Bavet from Vietnam are also used regularly.  The transportation vehicles are buses and cars, there are not railway available. Improved highways have now cut journey time significantly.

Important notes:

All visitors leaving Cambodia are expected to pay a departure tax, which cost US$25 at international airports and US$18 at domestic airports. The payment can be made with cash or credit card. This is not included in the price of the air ticket.
