Bargaining and Tipping

Bargaining is necessary in most tourist transactions and it is a good nature in Asia. So you shouldn’t become angry and argue with the vendors about the price, smile instead and bargain. In some cases you can bargain to get a 30% discount or more, at other times this may only be 10%.

Tipping in Vietnam is not expected but it is appreciated pretty much.  You should consider tipping drivers and guides for the time they spend on the trip with you. They deserve a tipping, because the time with you is the time they are away from home and family. Normally, passengers on a bus will pool together to collect a communal tip to be split between the guide and driver.  If you visit a pagoda, you should also consider giving donation to a contribution boxes that are available at almost pagodas in Vietnam.
