If a public holiday falls on a weekend, it is observed on Friday or Monday.
  • New Year’s Day (Tet Duong Lich): on 1 January
  • Vietnamese New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan): Technically, it’s a three-day national holiday, often in January or February. However, people often take more days off because this is their chance of union to spend time with their family after a year-round working.
  • Hung Kings commemorations (Gio to Hung Vuong): on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month
  • Liberation Day (Reunification Day): on 30 April – the date of Saigon’s 1975 surrender and the country is reunited is commemorated nationwide.
  • International Workers’ Day (May Day): on 1 May
  • National Day (Independence Day): on 2 September – the date commemorates the Declaration of Independence by Ho Chi Minh in 1945
