From the historic royal city of Luang Prabang to watch hundreds of saffron-robed monks walk silently for collecting Alms to the Plain of Jars in Xieng Khuang in the North. Down to the south, past the market town in Pakse and trek through the coffee plantations. Ride an elephant to see ancient ruins then sail through the 4,000 Islands where the mighty Mekong River spreads out and look for the rare Mekong dolphin. With impressive waterfalls, mysterious caves, rolling mountains and dramatic temples, this trip leaves you with so much more magic and irreplaceable memories. For those searching for authentic Asia and a little bit off the beaten track, Laos doesn’t disappoint.
Itinerary Day by Day


Upon arrival at the airport, welcome by our guide and transfer to your hotel for check in. Located in north central of Laos, Luang Prabang is former capital and UNESCO World heritage site of Laos. The small city boasts French colonial architectures, numerous Buddhist temples and natural landscapes along the banks of Nam Khan River. 

The rest of the day is your own free time at leisure.

Get up at the crack of dawn to participate in one of the most sacred Lao tradition, the Alms Giving Ceremony. See silent lines of Buddhist monks in orange robes walking down the streets to collect alms from faithful residents. 

After breakfast, start your city tour begin with the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts.  Continue to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground which represents classical Laotian architecture. Then transfer to visit some local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups including Ban Quay of Hmong people, Ban Ou of the Laoloum and Ban Thapene of the Khmu before cooling off in the turquoise and cool water of the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfall or walking along the forest trails. On the way back, visit the nearby Kuang Si Butterfly Park which newly opened on January 2014.

Arriving in Luang Prabang, climb up the 329 steps to the top of Phousi Hill for a beautiful sunrise view of the city and the Mekong River. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Today you embark on a cruise upstream on the Mekong River. First stop at Ban Xiengmene to explore Lao local village life, visit Wat Long Khun, the limestone cave Tham Sakkarin and tour around the village. 

After lunch, continue by boat up the Mekong and enjoy breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside before reaching the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, the two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims.  Along the way, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where locals make the famous rice wine. On the way back, take a short drive to Ban Phanom, a small village known for its hand weaving. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

After breakfast, we transfer by car about 8 hours north to Xieng Khuang province, the home of Plain of Jars which is considered the most mysterious and misunderstood prehistoric site in Laos. En route, stop over several villages to observe the rural life of local people, including ethnic minorities such as the Hmong people. On arrival in Phonsavan, the capital of Xieng Khuang and check in your hotel.

After breakfast at hotel, we drive over the plains to visit the Plain of Jars site 1 and the site 2. Discover thousands of stone jars scattering over an area of hundreds of square kilometers.  Despite the best efforts of archaeologists, the origin and the reason for the Plain of Jars remains a mystery. 

In the afternoon, an hour drive takes you to Muang Khoun, the old capital of Xieng Khuang where we will see some ruins left over from the war.

Morning, you are free to stroll around the town of Phonsavan before transferring out to the airport for the short noon flight to Vientiane. (QV402 XKH VTE 12:20 - 12:50)

Upon arrival, we drive to the city old quarter and visit some main sites here, including Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. En route to Lao’s national icon, Pha That Luang, you will have the opportunity to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument known as Victory Gate of Gate of Triumph, a war monument dedicated to people fought in the struggle for independence from the French. 

End of the day by enjoying the spectacular sunset over the Mekong River.

In the morning, we will first visit Wat Si Muang, a Buddhist temple built in 16th century which is considered the home of the guardian spirit of Vientiane. Then drive 25km southeast Vientiane to visit the Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, near the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe.

Back to the city, the rest of the day is your own free time at leisure.

In the morning, you are free before catching the flight for Pakse. (QV515 VTE PKZ 06:30 - 07:45)

Upon arrival, welcomed by our guide and transferred to visit the largest Buddha Statue at Wat Chomphet. We then head east to the Tad Fane resort, which is also the name of the highest waterfall in Laos. After a soft rest, start trekking through the villages, coffee plantations, and a suspension bridge. Huge rocks and epiphytic orchids abound all along the way. Tall pine trees grow here, giving an atypical character of landscape. Return to the hotel late afternoon.

We leave Tad Fane and enjoy a leisurely trip to the former royal capital of Champasak, our base for exploring the ruins of Wat Phu, one of Southeast Asia's most dramatically situated temples. We have time to explore these intriguing Khmer ruins, which are perched at the base of Mount Phu Kao. Wat Phu is one of the Lao World Heritage sites recognized by UNESCO in 2001, this wonderful archeological site of Khmer civilization dates back to the 9th century, predating the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. A festival of this site is held annually during the full moon in February and attracts numerous pilgrims from all over southern Laos. We then drive further south to Don Khong in the South Mekong river region known as the 4000 islands, one of the most scenic areas in Laos.

Today, we embark on a long tail boat for venturing into the widest reach of the Mekong River, where the waters recede during the dry season and leave behind thousands of islets, giving this area a lovely name” Si Phan Don”. We explore the local peaceful villages of Ban Khone, where you will see an array of relics from the French colonial era and retrace the old colonial past, including old French colonial buildings and the remnants of the first Lao railway with its locomotive. We continue to discover the 4000 islands area by tuk tuk and visit the marvelous Liphi waterfall, also called the "Corridor of the Devil" one of the most beautiful waterfalls marking Lao border with Cambodia. If we are lucky, we may even see the rare freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin at Ban Hang Khone.

After breakfast, we return to the mainland at the fishing village of Ban Nakasang and drive further south to visit Khone Phapheng, the largest waterfall by volume in Southeast Asia near the Lao-Cambodian border, set within an area which is teeming with wildlife, making this area one of the most breathtaking destinations in Laos. 

We then drive to Pakse. En route, stop in the village of Ban Khiet Ngong for an elephant ride (1:30) to mount Phou Asa, surmounted by the ancient citadel. Enjoy a panoramic view over the unspoiled area of Dong Houasao and the Mekong valley. On arrival at Pakse, visit Wat Chom Phet the central market in the afternoon.

Today, you are free before transferring to Ubon Ratchathani (Thailand) via Chongmek border. From there, you can continue your trip in Thailand or take the flight to Bangkok before taking another flight back home.

Morning, after you have breakfast at hotel our guide and driver will transfer you to Elephant Village. On arrival, you will be welcome and greeted by the Camp Manager who will give you a short briefing. You’ll enjoy the impressive experience of approx. 1 hour elephant ride on the Howdah (Elephant seat), you also take a boat trip return to the Tad Sae Waterfall and spend a bit time in the clear water. Your lunch will be prepared at the Elephant Village Restaurant (Buffet lunch served with Coffee or Tea and drinking water).  After lunch, you find the way back to hotel at 1 or 2 PM.
