This tour provides a comprehensive insight into Lao laidback capital. Located on the bank of the Mekong River, this serene town offers tourists full of things to see, from crumbling French mansions to tree-lined boulevards, from ancient stupas to national monuments. Walk around to see various kinds of orchids and end the day with a leisurely stroll along the Mekong River as the sun sets.
Itinerary Day by Day


On arrival in Vientiane, welcomed by our guide and transferred to your hotel for check in.  

In the afternoon, start your half day city tour by visiting the major temples of Vientiane including Wat Si Saket, the oldest temple in Vientiane featuring a cloister wall with more than 2000 ceramic and silver Buddha images, the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. Continue to the golden Pha That Luang, the most important national monument in Laos. Stop at Patuxai known as Victory Gate of Gate of Triumph, a war monument dedicated to people fought in the struggle for independence from the French in the center then take some pictures before finish the day by observing the spectacular sunset over the Mekong River.

After breakfast, transfer by car about 90 km north of the city to Nam Ngum Dam, the Lao oldest dam on the Nam Ngum River, and its reservoir is the largest water body in the country.  En route, stop over at Ban Keun, which is famous for its salt extraction plant and a village that distills the local Lao whiskey. On arrival at Nam Ngum Reservoir, embark on a long tail boat to visit fishing villages in the various islands, walk around to explore the life of local fishermen. On the way back, you can experience gambling at the legal Lao casino located in the valley where you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the lake. Return to Vientiane by late evening.

In the morning, we will first visit Wat Si Muang, a Buddhist temple built in 16th century which is considered the home of the guardian spirit of Vientiane. Then drive 25km southeast Vientiane to visit the Buddha Park, an enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, near the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe. 

In the afternoon, we transfer by car to the orchid farm, where you can find more than 2 000 plants, including 300 different orchid species coming from different regions of the country. The orchids are arranged by species in a beautiful green garden in Vientiane.

In the morning, you are free to explore the city including COPE Visitor Center, Ho Lak Muang, Wat Ong Teu before transferring to the airport for the departure flight.

Depart from your hotel in Vientiane to Ban Hatkhai in Phou Khao Khouay National Protected Area. From here, you start a cycling to Tad Xay Waterfall while enjoying some great views over Nam Mang and Mekong Rivers on the way. A picnic lunch is ready at Tad Xai. Afterwards, you can also spend some time for swimming before trekking under an evergreen canopy. The trek take you to Nam Mang River more upstream where you start kayaking to Ban Hatkhai. Need a soft rest before transferring back to your hotel in the city center of Vientiane.

Morning,  transfer to visit the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong – the most beautiful temples in Luang Prabang then take a traditional riverboat for a 2-hour cruise upstream the Mekong River towards Pak Ou, to visit the sacred caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phum. There are hundreds of Buddha images which have brought by local people since the cave was found in the early 14th century.  You’ll also visit Ban Xang Hai village where you will find sticky rice wine distillation. The majority of people here distill rice wine and do weaving. Lunch at a quiet restaurant beside the River.

Afternoon, disembark the boat to visit traditional villages, and drive a short distance to Ban Phanom, a village famous for its hand weaving before heading back to city, you’ll also visit the Royal Palace Museum, which hosts a range of interesting artifacts; the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham and Wat Mai. End of the day climb up 329 steps to the top of Phousi Hill in time to take a sunset view of the city and the Mekong River. Tour will end at the famous night market where you might find souvenir to bring home.

Morning, you'll visit the Big Brother Mouse shop to take some books for the village visit then hed northward by car along route 13, go along a unpaved road to Ban Khia Luang village where you stop at a school, play with the kids and watch them enjoy their new books. You'll spend time to explore the rest of the village, see weaving and visiting the local temple. Lunch at the village. You can chose a western picnic lunch or traditional laos food such as sticky rice, fresh vegetables prepared and cooked by the villagers. After lunch drive to Ban Khoklin while enjoying beautiful scenery of mountains and paddy fields until you arrive Ban Khoklin, a private boat is waiting to bring you down the Nam Ou river for 30 minutes to Pak Ou Caves where you find thousands of gold lacquered Buddha status of various shapes and sizes left here by pilgrims. End of day continue down the Mekong River back to Luang Prabang.
